I came across the brand CeraVe after hours of trawling the web for a really good facial moisturizer for super sensitive, dry skin, that was light weight (specifically quick to absorb and wearable under mineral foundations).
CeraVe is a Canadian brand and is readily available in the US, but only available through the web in the UK (I buy mine through Amazon.) As you will see, the bottle talks about it containing; ‘ceramides, niacinamide and hyaluronic acid’. These are important for people like me with dehydrated, eczema prone skin for various reasons. Ceramides help to hold moisture in the skin. They occur naturally in the top layer of the skin and form part of the skin’s natural barrier to the environment, helping to guard the skin from external irritants and dehydration. Niacinamide is a water-soluble form of Vitamin B and has anti-inflamitary properties, great for those with eczema and rosacea. It can also improve skin’s elasticity, enhance its barrier function and revive skin’s healthy tone and texture. Finally, Hyaluronic acid, which is a natural compound found in skin that has many important functions, including holding in moisture, aiding in tissue repair, holding together the skin structural components collagen and elastin. All in all, these are great ingredients to have in a skin product.
This particular ‘PM’ moisturizer is great as an under make-up moisturizer because the consistency is lotion-like so very quick to absorb. It stipulates ‘PM’ because there is no sunscreen so would not be advisable to wear in the day unless under something with a SPF of at least 15. It isn’t high in antioxidants but that can be rectified by using a serum with it (I use Paula’s Choice Skin Recovery Super Antioxidant Serum).
It costs around £12 on Amazon uk – which is a shame as it about half that price in the US.
